50th Anniversary Sugar Cookies

After I made cookies for the bridal shower a month ago, I was asked to make cookies for a 50th anniversary party. I had so much fun thinking of designs and drawing up ideas. I drew up about 10 designs, and then the client chose 3: a car, a cake and a heart. Too much fun I tell you.

I was so glad she picked the car as one of the designs because I was dying to try it out. I thought it would be cute to have a "flashback" cookie that said Just Married and have the original wedding date. Next time I do it maybe I'll try to do an old fashioned car. I didn't have a cookie cutter for the car so I free-handed it on some cardboard and then cut it out. Then I cut around the cardboard with a knife. It takes more time but I couldn't find a cookie cutter that I was happy with so creating my own cookie cutter was the way to go.

Ahh the cake. This one was tricky because of all of the writing. I've never written that much on a cookie before. It took a lot of practice. The other problem was that there is not a metallic gold gel coloring so I used a golden yellow and then tried to put some metallic luster dust on there to make it shimmer. At first I was not liking it but then my mom suggested putting a rose on it to pull it all together and I think that really helped. Now I'm in love with this one.

The heart was a pretty simple design. Except for the ribbon roses. I did the ribbon roses a few weeks ago. I used a #103 tip to make these and then I painted them with luster dust. Then I put them in an airtight container. You can make these ahead of time and keep them in a container for up to a year. Check out this tutorial from The Baking Sheet to see how to make them. Loren is awesome and I had to watch her video 10 times before I got a hang of it. But I really think the ribbon roses pull the cookies together.
