Graduation Sugar Cookies

It's that time of the year! Graduation season is upon us and you know what that means... plenty of graduation parties! If you're looking for a fun gift for the graduate or a dessert that's sure to wow at your party then look no further. As you all know I love making sugar cookies for any and all occasions. I love the almondy flavor in the sugar cookies as well as in the royal icing. And they're almost too cute to eat. I said almost.. no worries. You can make the graduation caps any color you want to match the graduate's school colors. I made these for Ben's sister who graduated from high school a few weeks ago.

Oh by the way! I graduated! I finally received my Masters of Accountancy at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. The past 5 years have been amazing in Madison and I'm sad to leave but also really excited to move back to Chicago. I don't start work until the end of October though so until then there will be plenty of baking adventures to break up the CPA studying. I just passed my first CPA exam and still have 3 more to go so it's going to be a loonnnggg summer full of studying. Don't you love that just when you think you're done with the school and studying you have to spend all summer doing just that? Ugh. Here's to the procrastobaking that is undoubtedly going to ensue this summer!

Ingredients:
Sugar Cookies
Royal Icing
Graduation Cap Cookie Cutter
Navy Blue Gel Food Coloring
Golden Yellow Gel Food Coloring

Tips:
I used a #3 tip for the outlining and the tassel. If doing a white cap make sure you wait until the icing has completely dried before doing the blue outline and yellow tassel. Otherwise, the colors will run into the white. You can also try doing a blue outline first and waiting until that dries and then filling the cookie with white. You will have a smoother surface rather than the raised effect I used. Good luck and happy cookie decorating!
