Christmas Cookie Techniques

There were three main techniques that I used for my Christmas cookies: dots, zig-zag lines and hearts. All are extremely easy and just require a squeeze bottle and a toothpick. These techniques should be done immediately after flooding your cookie and the icing of the dots should have the same consistency as your flood icing.

Zig-Zag Lines:
While the flooded icing is still wet make horizontal lines across the cookie (using the squeeze bottle.. it makes it much easier). Then starting at one side of the cooking drag the toothpick from the top down to the bottom of the cookie. You are essentially making a vertical line and dragging the horizontal line with you if that makes sense. Then starting at the bottom drag the toothpick up to the top of the cookie. Keep alternating starting at the top and starting at the bottom and you will get the zig-zag lines.

For the dots:
This one is super easy. When the flood icing is still wet just squeeze out a little bit of royal icing from the squeeze bottle. You really only need a drop of icing for this to work.

For the hearts:
Do the dots as you did before. But after that drag the toothpick through the dots in any pattern that you want and you will get a pattern of hearts on your cookie! This would be perfect to try for Valentine's Day.
